What pipe cleaning is required before installing a pneumatic butterfly valve

  • 1. Removal of Surface Debris

First, thoroughly clear all loose debris from the inner walls of the pipe. Common contaminants include dust, sand, metal shavings, and residual construction materials. Use compressed air at an appropriate pressure to blow through the pipe. For stubborn debris, use a soft-bristled brush to gently scrub the inner surface—avoid using hard tools that could scratch or damage the pipe.

  • 2. Cleaning of Oil and Grease Residues

To remove oil, grease, or other hydrocarbon residues, use a non-corrosive, industry-approved solvent. Apply the solvent to a clean, lint-free cloth and wipe the entire inner surface. After wiping, flush the pipe with clean, dry compressed air to remove any remaining solvent and residue.

  • 3. Treatment of Rust and Oxide Layers

For metal pipes, use a mild rust remover or a wire brush with soft bristles to gently remove rust and oxide deposits. After removal, wipe the pipe inner wall with a rust-inhibiting solution to prevent re-oxidation. Consider replacing pipes with severe, irremovable rust.

  • 4. Final Cleaning Verification

Perform a final verification by wiping the inner wall with a clean, white lint-free cloth. Blow through the pipe once more with dry, filtered compressed air. Finally, seal both ends of the cleaned pipe with clean, moisture-proof caps to prevent contamination before installation.
